Master Adrian DeSilva
Master Adrian DeSilva is the Chief Martial Arts Instructor at the Bay Mountain Martial Arts in Oakland, California . He has dedicated his life to spreading the many benefits of the martial arts to the Oakland community. The Bay Mountain Martial Arts trains men, women and children, beginning at the age of four. The Bay Mountain Martial Arts training focuses on Wing Tsun, H.I.I.T. Self Defense and Escrima as taught by Grand Master Renee Latosa.
Master DeSilva began his training at the age of five, studying Judo at the local YMCA in San Francisco, California . It was there that his love of the martial arts began. His fascination of the grappling arts motivated him to train in many forms of wrestling such as Greco Roman, Freestyle, and Collegiate wrestling in high school and junior college. At age twenty, he began his Kempo Karate training. Kempo incorporated an exciting mixture of hand strikes, kicks and grappling, which enhanced his Judo and wrestling background. His past experience in Judo and wrestling facilitated learning the theories and principles essential to Kempo Karate training, and helped him advance quickly in the style.
Master DeSilva currently holds the title of Godan 5th Degree Black Belt in Kempo Karate and continues his training daily. His thirst for additional martial arts knowledge has lead him to experiment and train in other styles. Specifically, he trained in Arnis Kombaton and Mano-Mano Pilipino Stick Fighting under Grand Master Ernesto Presas Sr. & continued his training with the Grand Master's son Master Ernesto "Jan Jan" Presas Jr. with exclusive private lessons. Master Adrian reached the Rank of 3rd Lakan Black Belt under the Presas Style of Philipino Stick Fighting in 2000.
In his continuous search for martial arts knowledge and better ways to teach his students he also studied Capoeria (a Brazilian martial art) under Mestre Acordeon; Omei Kung Fu (branch of Wushu) under Master Tony Chen; Saito Ryu Ninjitsu under Keith Carlson; Kickboxing and Jujitsu. Additionally, he studied Wing Chun for over eight years under different instructors. He is currently studying under Sifu Simon Mayer of the Leung Ting Method ofWing Tsun. Master Adrian is a private student of Sifu Simon Mayer, and currently holds a 1st Technician level under the Wing Tsun system. He is also presently training in Latosa Escrima under Guru Simon Mayer.
